To implement and pilot test our Self-Management Internet-Based Program for Older Adults with Overactive Bladder (OAB-SMIP) in a group of older adults with overactive bladder (OAB) to determine its usability and outcomes, including knowledge, self-efficacy, perception of bladder condition, and health-related quality of life.In a single-group study design with pre- and post-tests, we recruited 25 men...
We describe a 69-year-old man who came to our observation with a history of persistent left flank abdominal pain, fever for several weeks, and a previous history of passing renal stones. Radiological examinations with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a solid mass within the left side of a horseshoe kidney, with associated large renal stones. The patient subsequently underwent...
To investigate at the molecular level, whether the combined use of an antioxidant (L-carnitine) and a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor (meloxicam) is effective in the treatment of cellular damage caused by testicular torsion.A total of 30 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups. The control group underwent a sham operation, and the second group underwent torsion/detorsion...
To assess the clinical effect of the universal use of adrenal venous sampling and to investigate the characteristics of patients with primary aldosteronism undergoing laparoscopic adrenalectomy at a single tertiary care center. After the screening examination, confirmatory test, and computed tomography (CT) scans were completed, all patients with biochemically diagnosed hyperaldosteronism underwent...
We describe a 53-year-old man who presented with epigastralgia for 1 month. He had 3-year history of increased stool frequency and hypertension. An incidental adrenal mass 19 cm in largest diameter was discovered by computed tomography. Open tumor excision was performed. His symptoms of epigastralgia, hypertension, and chronic diarrhea had subsided after operation. He was tumor-free at 2-year follow-up.
To assess the efficacy and safety of solifenacin add-on therapy to tamsulosin in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) men with residual overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms despite tamsulosin monotherapy. In this randomized, multicenter, double-blind study, male LUTS patients aged ≥50 years with urgency episodes/24 hours ≥2 and micturitions/24 hours ≥8 were randomized to 3 groups: 12-weeks tamsulosin plus...
To evaluate the incidence and probability of recovery of erectile dysfunction after different types of one-stage urethroplasties for anterior urethral stricture disease.Seventy-eight men undergoing single-stage anterior urethroplasty from January 1, 2008 to March 31, 2010 were followed prospectively. Patients were divided into 3 groups: group 1 (n = 25)—penile substitution urethroplasty; group 2 (n...
To investigate the relation of testosterone-induced relaxation with smooth muscle K + channels in human internal spermatic veins. Testosterone induces relaxation in human isolated internal spermatic veins, and this effect decreases in high-grade varicocele (recently reported). The responses of isolated internal spermatic veins from patients with varicocele were recorded isometrically using...
The inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare benign tumor, known by several names and found in several locations throughout the body, including the lungs and genitourinary system (mostly the bladder). We report a case of a paratesticular IMT in a 17-year-old boy. Although the initial clinical diagnosis was rhabdomyosarcoma, the histopathologic examination revealed it to be an IMT. The preoperative...
To report changes in grade and stage between initial diagnostic and repeat biopsies or resection for urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and investigate the consequences for endoscopic management. Ureteroscopic management of upper tract UTUC is an alternative to nephroureterectomy, which is less invasive and preserves renal function. However, concerns about potential understaging, inaccurate grading, incomplete...
To investigate the efficacy of pazopanib, both alone and in combination with docetaxel, in bladder cancer cells. Bladder cancer expresses many potential therapeutic targets of biological agents, including the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR). Pazopanib is a small molecule inhibitor of VEGFR-1, -2-3, platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR), and c-Kit.Using human bladder cancer...
To present the results of a prospective study comparing transurethral cystolithotripsy and simultaneous transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), with transurethral cystolithotripsy and medical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The traditional dogma that bladder lithiasis constitutes an absolute indication for prostatic surgery has recently been questioned.A total of 64 patients with...
To investigate the prognostic factors associated with the treatment efficacy of minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy (MPCNL) and develop a preoperative logistic regression model for predicting the stone-free rate after the initial procedure. We retrospectively analyzed the records of 865 patients who had undergone MPCNL in our department from January 2006 to September 2009. Patient age,...
